Baby Quilt Idea - Bunnies
Animals are great themes for a quilt. And as one who loves traditional quilt blocks more than applique, I love it when I find a quilt block that is easy to make and looks like some kind of animal. This wall hanging was made for a friend who loved bunnies. It was a relatively easy quilt to make, although the border had a bunch of isosceles triangles, which aren't my favorite things to sew.
The block is divided into several sections:

This block is easy to draw up either on graph paper or in a quilt design software, and should go together quickly. The isosceles triangles are also fairly simple, and can be made any size. I made them to look like carrots with the tops. You can see that they didn't exactly fit along the sides and some of them are partial carrots. More careful planning and matching would solve that problem. Cornerstones seemed to be the easiest to fill the border corners instead of trying to miter the carrots or have them overlapping. The final dark border completes framing the bunny with the puffy tail. Add the eye using applique or embroidery, and you are ready to layer and quilt. This block also makes a great youth or baby quilt:
Happy Quilting!
